Artwork Sharks is a personal project inspired by the song “Sharks” by Imagine Dragons. The lyric “Better put your head on a swivel in rocky waters” resonated with me. It evokes a sense of alertness and awareness, the instinct to stay poised and observant in an unpredictable world. I wanted to translate that energy into a visual narrative that feels both futuristic and introspective.
The scene takes place in a surreal cityscape composed of tall, mirrored structures that reflect the sky and distort perception. In the foreground, two women stand within a luminous, reflective environment. One facing forward, one turned away. Their mirrored positions suggest duality: self and reflection, reality and illusion, calm and vigilance. The repeated motion in the animation enhances this sense of awareness, as if both figures are quietly scanning their surroundings, attuned to unseen movements around them.
Visually, the artwork Sharks combines graphite elements, watercolor textures and digital processes in Photoshop. The reflective floor adds an almost cinematic depth, pulling the viewer into this quiet yet tense world.
Conceptually, Sharks explores the fine line between beauty and caution. How we navigate emotional or social “waters” that may appear calm on the surface yet conceal underlying motion and uncertainty. The two characters embody different emotional states: one forward-looking and self-assured, the other introspective and aware of what lies behind.
This piece continues my ongoing exploration of mixing analog textures with digital composition to evoke emotion and rhythm. The motion in the GIF adds a living dimension to the stillness, reinforcing the song’s central message — staying aware, adaptable and centered even when the waters shift beneath you.
