Luxiders magazine art commission.
I had the honor of being commissioned, by Luxiders magazine, the creations of 2 portraits of two inspiring writers: Fathima Asghar (poet, director and screenwriter) and Safia Elhillo (poet and writer).
Luxiders, a magazine dedicated to sustainable culture, has long been a publication I admire. So clearly this project made it especially meaningful.
The commission challenged me to capture the unique personality and presence of each subject in a single illustration.
While only Fathima Asghar’s portrait was published in the magazine, both illustrations remain unquestionably significant pieces in my artistic portfolio.
Through Luxiders magazine art commission, I aimed to strike a balance between realism and artistic expression. Each portrait highlights not just the likeness of the writers, but the energy and voice they bring to their work. In that way celebrating their creativity and impact.
Working with Luxiders was indeed inspiring. Their focus on sustainability and thoughtful storytelling aligns closely with my own values as an artist. This commission remains a highlight of my professional illustration career, even years later.
The published portrait of Fathima Asghar appeared in the issue 06 2021 of Luxiders magazine. You can explore more about the magazine and its dedication to sustainable culture at Luxiders official website.
This commission reminded me how illustration can amplify creative voices and bring stories to a wider audience. Every project like this reinforces my belief that art is above all a powerful tool for connection, understanding and cultural celebration.
