OVUM – Variations is an ongoing body of work exploring life, connection, and transformation through a single recurring form.
The ovum first appeared in my work more than twenty years ago while living on the Greek island of Hydra. The idea remained dormant for many years before resurfacing in 2025 with renewed significance.
Through repetition and variation, each work investigates the relationship between individuality and interconnectedness. While every form appears distinct, all emerge from the same origin, reflecting the invisible bonds that connect all living beings.
Created from hand-painted watercolor elements that are scanned, layered, and reassembled digitally, the works evolve through a process that combines painting, collage, and composition. Transparency, texture, and rhythm create visual spaces that invite contemplation and stillness.
Each artwork is developed as a unique piece and exists as a single print.
OVUM – Variations is conceived as an ongoing artistic practice in which one simple form generates an endless range of visual and emotional possibilities.
Monica Lind is a Swedish artist and illustrator based in Paris. Throughout an international career in commercial illustration, she has collaborated with publishers, agencies, and cultural institutions worldwide.
Recent collaborations include the creation of visual backgrounds for the Atlanta Ballet’s 2025/26 and 2026/27 campaign seasons. Working on increasingly abstract compositions during these projects encouraged a return to her own artistic exploration and contributed to the development of the OVUM series.
Alongside her commissioned work, Lind continues to develop OVUM – Variations, an ongoing body of work exploring life, interconnectedness, and transformation through a recurring visual form.
